Bali is a mecca for most Aussie travellers, whether you’re a solo traveller, a bunch of friends, a romantic getaway or the family taking a relatively cheap overseas trip to kick back relax and soak up the Balinese sun. No matter which group you fall into, the first hurdle we all face is, how are you getting there. For us taking our first family vacation with two small kids under two, Jetstar was the best option, having flown them before without kids we found them easy to fly with all around good service. But you know, kids are an element all their own and can make the simplest of tasks a mission. Thankfully that was not the case… nothing but blue skies!

Rolling into the airport for our early morning flight, we found the Jetstar check-in desks with a massive line already formed but once they opened, the line moved smoothly and pretty-quickly and with two babies strapped to us we appreciated it! The rest of our airport journey ran just a smoothly, breezing through customs making our way towards the gates.

Pro-Tip: Don’t board the plan immediately, let the kids run around as much as possible to burn off any energy they have. It’s something we were told and couldn’t recommend it more.

The flight itself was smooth, with helpful staff who were attentive and ready to help. With a plane filled with families and small children you would think it would be crazy on board but again smooth sailing. Another pro-tip is to know your plane, try and position yourself close enough to the bathrooms but not to close, so you can get up and do the standing rock if you need to settle the little ones. We happened to be flying Boeing 787 Dreamliner over and the Airbus A321neo on the way back. Travelling with kids, the Dreamliner had more space especially in the bathrooms when having to change those nappies. While the Neo is the new kid on the block and all shiny, it is six seats across meaning single aisle so again with kids its harder to get up and move around. But again, with amazing staff on board taking care of everything you will surely have a great flight no matter the plane.

Whatever your opinion of Jetstar, having had the opportunity to fly with them solo, couple and now with the kids, Jetstar’s low fares make it possible to travel to more places, more often for less. With the added benefit of only having to pay for the extras we want it makes flying a whole lot cheaper. What does that mean for me, travelling solo – just carry-on, with the other half – one checked for the two of us, the whole family – lets add another checked. Flying Jetstar lets us and you fly the way we want to for cheaper. We know, we’ll be boarding another with Jetstar flight soon. Where to, don’t know yet… but we’ll keep you posted!
